Ladhak - Alchi – Likir Monastery – Nimmo Confluence - Leh

This day was full of surprises and a beautiful road to Likir. My suggestion is to skip this place if you are short of time & do not have any specific reasons for visiting here. It's just scenic like many other monasteries Here is a beautiful view from the monastery. Count the blues and greys if you can!

Likir: monastery has golden Buddha statue like one in Diskit.

There was a surprise thrill experience...This is a famous monastery on the edge of a mountain near the river. Like all other monasteries the view is superb. The thing that I recall the most of this place is the toilets :D . These were constructed off the edge of the mountain so the shit goes straight down thousands of feet down the mountain. And that is how most of the toilets in Leh are – natural drainage; considering there is no such thing at this height. Using one was a mixture feeling of fear and adventure in a completely awkward place. Tip: when on road in Ladhak, remember, toilets don’t exist. If they do, have lot of courage to use them!

On the return journey, I had planned to go on the rafting excursion which is conducted at the Confluence point and is best in the frigid cold Zanskar river during this season. However, we reached after 12 PM and the next session was only at 4 PM. The place from where the rafting begins is approx. 15-20kms from the Confluence point. You will need to go there in your vehicle. Then the car needs to drop you and come back to wait for the main office at the confluence point where you will arrive in the raft.Tip: Since most of us use the private taxi in Leh, this excursion is not included in the Leh-Alchi-Likir circuit and you will need to pay quite a bit extra.
